This is a story of a vehicle that went from great, to worn down, to great, to bagged and back. This car has some serious history. I purchased this car from a kid in Salmon Arm that had neglected this car harder then 95% of the vehicles I’ve owned in the past 12 years. The photos I was shown did not reflect the actual condition of the car well at all. The windshield had an undisclosed crack straight across, the body had some scuff repair, mismatched colours, dents, and warped trim all the way around the car. Not to mention, it blew a ton of blue on startup, which ended up being the CT26 turbo.
The test drive went well though, and I ended up purchasing the vehicle. However, in a 40 minute drive, heat began to SPIKE. We didn’t notice it before, but there was a TON of coolant leaking from the upper rad hose. It ran itself out of coolant, almost overheating in Vernon, BC. We filled it up, parked it, and retrieved it in the morning.
I took it into the Toyota dealership in Rutland, BC to get some work done, where my good friend Matt fixed the coolant system, did a flush, serviced the brakes, adjusted the Coilover suspension and diagnosed an exhaust leak. Boom, the car could run and drive without overheating, or fear of it, at least.
Next up was Crytal Glass, located here in Kelowna as well. A new windshield ran about $500, but I got it done so it could hit the road.
My plans are to revert the coil overs to stock TEMS suspension as this is equipped with the option. It features the 4 way power seat (cloth), Upgraded LIVE sound stereo, Targa top, and features the 7MGTE, swapped with an R154 manual 5 speed transmission.
