1987 Toyota Supra
The Vehicle's Story

I bought the car when i lived in Colorado some 9 or 10 years ago. Previous owner paid a shop to put a jdm 7mge in and couldnt afford to finish the job so the shop kept the car. I was the 2nd offer on the craigslist ad for 800 obo. I had heard of the supra from the fast and furious movie but didnt really know what the car was i was just looking for a project. The first guy that offered 600 said he was going to part the car out even though it was mostly complete. I told the seller i will give you what you are asking for the car and i plan on keeping it and driving it. So i got the car and it barely ran. Limped it home to the other side of town and went to work. The car needed everything. The engine install wasnt done. The shop put a new fuel pump into 2 inches of sludge in the tank just to “get it running.” Timing wasnt set, vacuum lines werent hooked up and it needed the works. The car had sat for 6 years. I put 3 grand into it just to get it road worthy including all new fuel system, restoring the tank, new cooling system, belts, hoses, brake lines, and wheels and tires. While working on the car i really began to fall in love with it. Other than the nightmare of a starter i really feel like the engineers just knew they were making a car for the ages. I later found out the egr cooler was missing and causing essentially a huge vacuum leak. Blocked it off and finally got to drive it daily. I daily drove the car keeping it mostly stock with wheels for about 5 years id say. I did slowly progrees through doing the 89+ updates, most of them anyway. One day i noticed a knock. Saved up for a nice set of digital gauges only to find 0 psi oil at idle. I was planning a road trip to #gridlife midwest as i have family in the michigan and ohio area. So some friends and i pulled the engine and refreshed the bottom end. Drove the car 1600 miles across country and halfway back in iowa the engin spun a bearing. After constantly fixing everything with the 7m i gave up amd started saving for a 1jz. I almost went 1uz swap but i got a good deal on my 1j. $1650 shipped after 10 months of saving. I had $1000 in parts sitting on my living room floor of my apartment. Out with the 7m for the last time and i have never looked back. I did timing belt and thermostat when i put the engine in and switched to ford contour v6 electric fans and the only problem i have had since was when the capacitors blew on my ecu. After doing research i found my engine/ecu came from a 97 soarer. Couldnt find a replacement ecu and couldnt afford to go standalone since the car was still auto so i had to fix it. What did i have to lose? It was already broken. Lots of research and learning and now i know how to do circuit board repairs and have since reapaired lots of other stuff. That was 3 years ago car still runs to this day. Reliable as ever, fast enough (for now). Running 12.5 psi boost and a walbro 255 fuel pump. Megan coilovers. Last year i moved back to michigan and shipped the car with me. Drove it this summer to this years #gridlife event just to prove it could make it. Now it gets stored for the long winters and i drove it all summer. All the work done by me and a few friends of mine. I have tons of pictures over the years from the origional craigslist photos to pics this past summer. Might even get some nice fall pics this year too.
